We Are All on Our Way
06/08/2011Quick Check In
06/18/2011We have all arrived. Our luggage all arrived, no flight delays and our work has begun. We have spent the last 2 days working hard on the kitchen project. It has been hot and sunny each day and that makes for a tired bunch of volunteers when the day is done.
We have a group of construction workers who are assiting us with the project so we are quite a large team. Everything to this point has been running smoothly (always a few bumps, but if there are only a few then things are good) The kitchen is starting to look like a kitchen and as the finishing begins we are all excited to see how it will come out.
The children living at Adziwa are amazing and there are MANY! We have had a great time getting to know them and seeing how this kitchen will change things for their community. Today we got to see the hundreds of kids line up to get their meal and it was quite a sight. Because we have torn down the old kitchen and the new one isn’t done they are just building a small fire out in the open and the ladies are cooking and serving the kids that way.
Since we are staying in the village I am not able not get to the main lodge and use the internet daily. To get to our project site we are walking 2 miles each way so 4 miles in total in the heat. We are very dirty at the end of the day and just exausted. Tonight after my shower I decided to make the long walk up to the lodge. I could not convince anyone to come with me so I hurried along the mile hike so I could blog quickly and get back before the sun sets. As I type the sun has now gone down and I will have to arrange a ride back because walking out here in the country after dark with all the wild animals can be a bit frightening (even to me).
I wish I had more time to elaborate on the daily activities. I hope to write again soon and give more details.
Love to you all. Please know we are all safe and healthy and enjoying ourselves.

Ms. Erin: So glad to hear from you – I was anxiously awaiting. I want you to know if I would of had one ounce of energy left I would have walked with you to blog and we would of held hands on the way back and ran when we got scared. HA HA. Prayers and good vibes coming your way each and every day from all those that love you. So glad the project is moving along well. Remember, you are their angel. Love you! Can't wait to hear all about it and see the new pictures you will have. Hugs, Kimberly
Well, a mile is a pretty long way to run at a frantic pace….. so I understand completely the shortness of the blog. Just enough information to let us all know that you are doing well and the project is progressing as planned. Keep up the good work and give my girl a hug from her momma. Looking forward to the next communication. We will continue to keep in prayer for you and all the people helping with the project, as well as all the people in the village. Be safe, happy, and healthy. momma burk
