Sunday we decided to work. I was set to attend the funeral in the afternoon and the group had plenty to do. We only have Monday and Friday left at the project site so we were going to need to start tying things up. We went to the site around ten because we were going to meet Sherry and Jan after they went to church. The walk was really different because it was Sunday. Lots more kids and lots of people! It was fun seeing the village so busy and having all kinds of people saying hello and talking to us.
Sherry and Jan came around 1pm because they said church went long 🙂 they both were beaming and telling us that it was wonderful!! I’m sure they will both relay that experience to their friends and family.
Once they arrived Sai and I had to leave for the funeral. I don’t think I’m ready to tell the story of how that all went. It was fine and an experience I’m quite sure most people will never have. I was the only white person out of a crowd of about 3,000 people. I wanted so badly to blend in but it was just impossible. I’ll post another blog about it after I’m home.
Sunday night everyone was sleepy. We ate another great meal and a few of us hung around for a while chatting. As we ate I gave the group a briefing about safari and they all seemed excited. Sherry and Jan spoke with us about the schedule they have come up with for the “littles”. I asked them to create a schedule since they have been with the kids so much this past week. They both were thrilled to help and I enjoyed getting their input. Sherry cracks me up. She has quickly become the mama and the nana of the group. She is never in bad spirits and if you need a smile all you have to do is find her 🙂
Lauren, Taylor and Phil were sitting around the other night talking and we all were laughing so hard our faces hurt. It’s incredible how many jokes and stories we already have and we have only been together a week!
We really are doing well and I wish I had more mental energy to write. Between the limited wifi and all the work we are doing I’m worn out!
We are leaving for Zambia tomorrow so I’ll be offline for a while. Love to you all!
